Program’s purpose/objectives:

The purpose of the Public Relations and Communication program is to provide graduates with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills related to Public Relations, Communications, Marketing and Media, which are necessary for professionals and highly valued by a diversity of contemporary industries. In particular, this program of study offers students the necessary knowledge to help organizations generate and maintain beneficial relationships with their audiences while at the same time aiding organisations to develop and maintain a positive reputation. Throughout this program of study students will develop knowledge and skills related to traditional and social media, communications management, research planning, ethical decision making, campaign development, PR techniques, marketing, digital communication, and crisis management.

Foremost, this program of study is internationally recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), which is the only Royal Chartered professional body for Public Relations Practitioners.

This program stays up-to-date with current affairs and technological advances through the use of relevant tools and exposes students to the industry perspective. Moreover, this program aims to enhance students’ progression and employability by providing students with the necessary tools to further their studies and engage in research and/or secure a job in the Public Relations, Marketing, Media, and Communication sectors and related industries.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from a six-year public or private school of secondary education formally registered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus or the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Greece. In addition, evidence that the applicant is competent in written and spoken Greek for courses taught in the Greek language or English through IELTS (Bands 5.5 – 6) or equivalent qualification, for courses taught in the English language*, plus successful completion of a personal interview with our Admissions Officer and a member of the academic staff from the relevant department, either in person, by phone or Microsoft Teams;

or

General Certificate of Education with a pass mark in five courses, including two courses at Advanced Level and Ordinary passes in English Language or an equivalent qualification;

or

General Certificate of Education with a pass mark in four courses, including three courses at Advanced Level and Ordinary Level passes in English Language or an equivalent qualification;

or

Successful completion of a university Foundation program or an equivalent qualification;

or

Successful completion of 12 years of schooling and in addition, evidence that the applicant is competent in written and spoken English* through IELTS (Bands 5.5 – 6) or equivalent qualification, plus successful completion of a personal interview with our Admissions Officer and a member of the academic staff from the relevant department, either in person, by phone or Microsoft Teams.


*Placement Tests

All students are required to take standardized placement tests in English and Mathematics. These tests are administered by the University during the orientation week and aim to assess each student’s potential. These tests measure quantitative and verbal aptitudes. All test scores are then screened by a panel. Appropriate programs are then drawn up to assist students in light of the observations made by the panel. Holders of the General Certificate of Education in English and Mathematics or an equivalent qualification are exempted from the placement tests.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Public Relations and Communications program, students will:

• Develop a clear understanding towards the scope of Public Relations and the principle roles that research, counselling and communications play in public relations activities;
• Develop and apply necessary knowledge, transferable skills and creativity to pursue a career in public relations and associated professional fields in a diversity of potential roles and sectors;
• Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of what constitutes public relations professionalism in different contexts and sectors;
• Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of major concepts and theories of public relations’ theory, research and scholarship;
• Demonstrate ability to apply public relation and communications’ theoretical concepts, ideas, debates and models to practical, real-life work-related situations, case studies, scenarios and briefs;
• Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the media and its relationship to public relations and the relationship of public relations to social and cultural theory and critique.
