Course Description

This course introduces students to the media environment and media’s role and functions within our contemporary globalised society. This course provides a detailed consideration of media institutions, media ‘texts’ and media audiences by focusing on issues surrounding the encoding of media ‘texts; how media messages are used and interpreted by their audiences; power relations in media; and regulation and censorship of the media by the government and other policy institutions.
