Department of Language Studies and Communications

The mission of the Department of Language Studies and Communications is to provide and assess a comprehensive education that prepares students for careers, graduate study, leadership roles and life-long learning while fostering oral and written communication skills, behaviors and practices. Faculty and students develop a keen awareness of diverse cultures, social groups, ideologies, and philosophical orientations. In concert with the faculty, students develop specialized knowledge and skills in their chosen academic areas of English, Communication Studies, Mass Communication, European Languages, and/or Creative Writing.

Guided by the Department’s mission, our vision is to:

• Attract a diverse body of well-prepared students and support them with challenging classes, field experiences, and research opportunities;
• Recruit and retain highly-qualified faculty through the provision of workloads conducive to effective teaching, mentoring, research, and service;
• Sustain a collegial environment where students, faculty and staff respect and value each other’s unique strengths and contributions.
