Stavros Vryonides started his nursing career in 1989 after he obtained his diploma in General Nursing from the Nursing School of Cyprus. Since then, he had a rich and multifaceted education — in the fields of nursing, management and business administration, but also in educational methods and teaching. In 1999 he obtained a BSc degree in Nursing by the Anglia Ruskin University (UK), followed by a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Cyprus in 2012 and a PhD in Nursing from the Cyprus University of Technology in 2022. Dr Vryonides also holds a postgraduate Diploma in nursing administration obtained by the Nursing School of Cyprus in 2003. Since 1995 he additionally holds a certificate in Continual Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (C.A.P.D nursing) from Kings College Hospital (UK). Moreover, in 1997 he obtained a diploma in teacher aids from the International Corresponding Schools (USA), while since 2001 he also holds a Certificate of training of teachers at Nursing Schools from the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute.
In the context of his scientific activity, Dr Vryonides has had several scientific articles published in international peer reviewed journals, collaborations with scientists from all over the world, as well as a wealth of presentations, posts and announcements at local and international conferences (some, as an invited speaker). He has also written a chapter in a book of individualized nursing care, with an international impact for university course instruction. His research interests and studies include a wide array of subjects in health care services, patient safety, missed nursing care, nursing administration, organizational ethics, ethical climate in organizations, deontology, psychosocial impact of disease the marketing of organizations, as well as the management of organizations and services in their wider context.
Stavros Vryonides has a wealth of clinical and multifaceted experience in the field of health care (1989-2023), which was gained by working in various departments and care units both in Cyprus and in other countries as well (UK, USA). During the last three years he works as the Nursing Head of the Directorate of Primary Health Care (PHC) of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO), where he is responsible for the coordination and organization of all the 38 Primary Health Care centers (rural and urban) of SHSO, throughout Cyprus. He has also has extensive experience in teaching and in academia. From 1997 to 2002 he worked as an educational officer at the Cyprus Nursing School, where he was responsible for the theoretical as well as the clinical part of many courses. In the context of his PhD studies, he has also actively participated in teaching in the courses of the undergraduate program of the Nursing department and also contributed to the design of the courses related to fundamentals of nursing and to the ethics, deontology and legislation in nursing. In 2023, after completing his doctoral studies, he worked as a specialist scientist in the undergraduate nursing program at the Cyprus University of Technology, while currently he works as a special scientist in the undergraduate nursing program at Philips University (teaching the courses “Health Promotion” and “Surveillance and Infection Control for Nurses”).
Dr Vryonides had been elected by Cypriot Nurses and Midwives as the Vice President of CYNMA (Cyprus Nursing and Midwives Association) running from 2012 to 2024, as a board member of the Cyprus Nursing and Midwifery Council (CNMC) (2012 to 2020) and as Board Member of the Cyprus Disciplinary Council for Nurses and Midwives (From 2012 to 2016). He also served as Board member of the Steering Committee of EFNNMA – WHO (European Forum of National Nursing and Midwives Associations) and World Health Organization (Elected and appointed by the delegates of the 54 countries participating in EFNNMA -WHO (from 2013 to 2015).
