Biography

Dr. Katerina Kaikoushi is an advance practitioner nurse in mental care. Since 2015 she has been working as a registered mental health nurse in Cyprus. She has completed her higher master studies in Advance Nurse Practice specialising in Mental Health Care (2015) and completed her PhD studies in Mental Health Nursing in 2022 at the Cyprus University of Technology.

She has clinical experience as a mental health nurse in various facilities (Athalassa Pyshciatric Hospital/ Mental Health Community Center) and she is training in systemic – family psychotherapy at the Cyprus Center for Personal Development and Psychotherapy. At present, her professional duties concern nursing interventions in the community for individuals and families of individuals with psychiatric symptoms. Furthermore, she is a visiting lecturer in the Cyprus University of Technology in the Nursing Department and in Philips University.

Dr. Kaikoushi research interests revolve around involuntary admission for compulsory care in hospital acute care units. In particular, she focuses on the investigation of the relationship between the intensity of symptoms of neuro-biological / neuro-cognitive disorders and the applied psychotropic medication, as well as on the factors associated with involuntary readmission of individuals with mental health symptoms in order to receive compulsory treatment in acute care wards of the adult population in Cyprus. Her publication articles are focusing on mental health and mental illness in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. In the future she plans to investigate the effectiveness of empowerment and self-management interventions in people experiencing psychotic symptoms and their symptom outcomes.

Furthermore, Dr. Katerina Kaikoushi has attended various nursing conferences not only as an attendee but also as a presenter in order to enhance her knowledge and teaching /presenting skills. Throughout her career, she has gained a lot of experience, practical and leadership skills which has helped her practice on providing effective, safe, and up to date nursing mental care to her patients.

In addition, she participates as a coordinator in experiential workshops with groups of people with the experience of a psychiatric diagnosis, and with groups of people with the aim of promoting and preventing mental health.
