Dr. Iacovos Ioannou completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Cyprus (2017–2021), with his dissertation on a novel Distributed Artificial Intelligence framework with Machine Learning for 5G/6G communication. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Philips University (2026–Present), a Researcher at CYENS Centre of Excellence focusing on smart city applications in IoT, 5G/6G, and Distributed AI (2018–Present), and a Researcher at GÉANT Europe leading work on next-generation networking and secure connectivity (2018–Present). Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at European University Cyprus (2025–2026) and as a Special Teaching Scientist (2017–2025) at multiple institutions, including the University of Cyprus, UCLAN Cyprus, and European University Cyprus, where he taught IoT, Wireless Networks, and Advanced Databases. His industry experience includes Software Developer at PrimeTel (2013–2018) and IT & Programmer at Cyprus Stock Exchange (2008–2013).
He is an IEEE Senior Member, served as TPC Chair for Asiancomnet 2025, and is a TPC member and reviewer for major IEEE conferences and journals, having reviewed more than 300 papers. He has delivered keynotes at ICRISET 22, CEII 2022, Wispnet 2024, and Asiancomnet 2024, 2025. With more than 90 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and over 625 citations, his research output includes the book “Distributed Artificial Intelligence for 5G/6G Communications” (CRC Press) and the book chapter “Federated Learning at the Edge: Enabling AI in 5G/6G Networks and Massive IoT.” His research projects, including Cybersafe Cyprus and the National CSIRT–CTIP System, reflect his expertise in distributed AI and cybersecurity.
