Introduction to Sustainability

Course Description

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the concept of sustainability, which is promoted as a possible solution to many international, regional and local problems of society. The basic definitions of sustainability are analyzed. In addition, the three pillars of sustainability (environment, society, economy) are analyzed.
The goal is to acquire the ability to manage natural ecosystems and resources, in a way that satisfies a) the maintenance of the balance of natural systems, b) the coverage of human needs. The course also aims to present and analyze the basic principles and concept of the Circular Economy, as it develops very quickly. The course will show how the Circular Economy can be applied in practice, in what specialties and areas, and the opportunities it provides for multi- and inter-scientific cooperation.
