Biography

Dr Joanna Menoikou holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Philips University since October 2025. She completed her PhD studies in the Department of Nursing at the Cyprus University of Technology, focusing on parental health literacy and its association with the use of antibiotics in children and pediatric vaccinations. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Cyprus University of Technology and a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh. Additionally, she holds a postgraduate diploma in Therapeutic Play from the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy (APAC) in collaboration with Leeds Beckett University.

From 2015 to 2025, she worked as an administrative/teaching member in the Nursing Program at the European University Cyprus. Her duties included teaching laboratory courses, coordinating the clinical placement of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and organizing the nursing laboratories.

She has participated in several European ERASMUS+ projects aimed at developing educational programs to enhance the health literacy of caregivers (eLILY, https://elily.eu/el/home-gr-ok/) and healthcare professionals (Elily2, https://www.elily2.eu/), as well as in the development of an educational program using virtual reality to educate nursing students in Pediatric Nursing Care (VLPN, https://vlpn.eu/). Additionally, she worked on the design and development of a Good Practice Guide on Ethical and Deontological Issues for Nurses, which has been published by international, European, and local organizations as part of the European project PROMOCON (https://promocon.upatras.gr/el/).

She has published in scientific journals and presented at scientific conferences both in Cyprus and across Europe.

She is an elected member of the Scientific and Audit Committee, as well as a founding member of the Panhellenic Scientific Association for Health Literacy. She is also an elected member of the Research Committee of the International Health Literacy Association (IHLA). Finally, she is an active member of the Pediatric Nursing Initiative Group of the Cyprus.
