Dr Ioannis Bakouros is a Professor of Technology and Innovation Management and former Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and member of University of Western Macedonia’s Senate. He is a Chemical Engineer, graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and received his PhD in the field of Technology Management from University of Bradford in England.
He worked as a Production and Sales Manager in industrial, commercial, and consulting companies. He served as a member of the Board of Directors and as a Technical Advisor to large textile companies. He was responsible for the development of Thessaloniki Technology Park and the establishment of its Educational Center with an emphasis on training in methodologies and technology transfer mechanisms.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Thessaloniki Innovation Zone and one of the founders of the Thessaly Technology Park where he served in its first Board of Directors. He was President of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation in Western Macedonia. He also served as President of the 32 European National Coordinators of the EUREKA initiative during the Greek Presidency of the EU. He has extensive experience in developing smart tools for innovation management, business support, entrepreneurship, and innovation promotion, through the execution of a long series of Research and Development Projects as Coordinator or Researcher.
He is currently the Director of the Civil Protection Institute, Coordinator of the Civil Protection Living Lab and Scientific Coordinator of numerous (more than a hundred) Community and National Projects on Natural Disasters, Civil Protection, Risk Management, Energy and Just Transition, Regional Development Competitiveness, and Management of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology.
He has published many articles and books in all the aforementioned fields with a corresponding number of bibliographies. His latest book entitled “Innovation and Entrepreneurship, from Theory to Practice” has also been translated into English.
