Introduction to Finance

Course Description

This course introduces students to finance, how to interpret financial information and commentaries, and consider how to take account of finance in decisions that need to be made. The objectives of the course are to provide an understanding of the NPV decision making rule and how NPV calculations can be modified in the face of such factors as inflation and taxation; to assess and take into account of risk and uncertainty on the investment decision; to analyse specific investment decisions such as lease or buy an asset, when to replace an asset and how to assess projects when capital is a scarce resource;
