Dr. Rafaela Orphanides is currently a Lecturer in Media and Communications in the Department of Language Studies and Communications at Philips University and the Program Co-ordinator of the BA degree in Public Relations and Communication. She received a BA (Hons) in Education, from the University of Cyprus in 2014, and an MA (with Distinction) in Media and Public Relations from University of Leicester in 2016. In 2020 she was awarded her Ph.D in Media and Communications from Loughborough University, U.K. Her PhD thesis focused on gender constructions in women’s magazines during austerity. Dr. Rafaela’s main research interests include mediated representations, gender and media, and audiences’ media reception. Dr. Rafaela’s research also involves the exploration of notions of Feminism, Post-feminism and Neoliberalism in contemporary popular culture.
